Oprah never sent letter to Wendy: Gayle

Remember that letter Oprah Winfrey supposedly wrote to Wendy Williams last week reassuring the talk-show host that Winfrey and Gayle King are still BFFs?

Never happened, says King.

Williams started the mischief last week by publicly speculating that the Winfrey-King friendship was cooling off after King quit Winfreys cable network to take a job hosting CBSs newly revamped morning show.

Next day, Williams read on the air a letter she said she got from Winfrey denying any split.

The letter that I heard Wendy read, King told a radio call-in show Friday, I know Oprah never wrote a letter to Wendy.

King says she called Winfrey right after.

Im getting all these messages that you wrote a letter to Wendy, she asked.

Gayle, you know more than anybody knows that thats not true, King said Winfrey replied.

King insisted that Winfrey encouraged her to take the CBS job, even when King said she was not sure.

Are you kidding? King quoted Winfrey as saying. This is so what you do, the news is what you love . . . You would be crazy to pass it up.
