More than 550 women graduating from Spelman College this weekend heard from media icon Oprah Winfrey.
Winfrey on Sunday delivered the commencement address to the Class of 2012 and received the historically black women's college's National Community Service Award. Winfrey was recognized for her philanthropic efforts, especially those aimed at education. Three students from her Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa have been accepted to Spelman and will start classes this fall.
Winfrey also sat down Saturday for an interview with Spelman President Beverly Tatum this weekend. She referred to the Spelman women as "sisters," and sang with them part of the song, "I Surrender All." Her advice to the audience was "to always come back to who you really are."
