Oprah Winfrey coming to Scotiabank Place in Ottawa April 10

It appears Canada is starting to agree with Oprah Winfrey.

The poor Southern girl turned billionaire media mogul is coming to Scotiabank Place on April 10 as part of a three-event tour that includes Montreal and Hamilton.

But unlike her TV show, this time the only speaker will be Oprah herself, no Doctor Phil, nor Doctor Oz, nor Tom Cruise couch-hopping, nor Lance Armstrong confessing.

The formal title of the night is An Evening with Oprah Winfrey Presented by TD Bank Group, but its the Story of Oprah that filled arenas in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver, drawing in a legion of mostly female fans to hear her talk for almost two hours about her life, her philosophy and her many friends. Now shes headed east.

In Ottawa, the April 10 show, which will start at 7 p.m., will follow a similar format. According to organizers, she will share stories and insights from throughout her life and illustrate ways attendees can take control of their lives to reach their full potential. This will be followed by a question-and-answer session, which was led, out West, by CBC-TVs George Stromboulopoulous.

In Vancouver, Winfrey talked about listening to your inner voice, whether you consider it the voice of God or, as she likes to say, your emotional GPS, on the road to self-actualization.

For her, pursuing her calling, or finding the acorn in the oak and then sharing it, meant making some changes, according to a report of the evening by the Vancouver Sun.

Winfrey is best known for her hugely popular daytime television program. She turned away from a he-said-she-said tabloid talk-show format during the height of her popularity in the 90s to develop a program that included pop psychology, current affairs, and some couch-jumping celebrities, but mostly living your best life, complete with book clubs, favourite things and a-ha moments.

Winfrey ended the show in 2011, but has since built a media empire out of that success and runs her own cable network, OWN.
