Winfrey started 'Oprah's Book Club' in 1996 as a feature of her syndicated daytime talkshow. Through the club, she was able to popularise several novels including Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye and James Frey's A Million Little Pieces.
In a video posted by OWN, the former TV host has announced a revamp of the project, called 'Oprah's Book Club 2.0'.
It is a joint venture between Winfrey's television network OWN and O magazine, which will focus on the use of digital media such as Facebook and Twitter to promote discussion.
The first book nominated for the club is Cheryl Strayed's memoir Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail.
Oprah was recently named one of the most powerful celebrities in the world, alongside other entertainers including Jennifer Lopez and Justin Bieber.
