Nate Berkus engaged to Jeremiah Brent, proposed in Peru

Nate Berkus, an interior designer who appeared regularly on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and once hosted his own daytime talk series, is engaged to his boyfriend, Jeremiah Brent.

Berkus, 41, proposed to Brent while visiting Machu Picchu in the mountains of Peru on Monday, April 8,Us Weekly reported. The two had traveled to the famous Inca site as part of a shopping trip with executives of home furniture company One Kings Lane, the magaine said, adding that Berkus is working on a project for the firm.

Brent posted a photo of the group on Instagram (pictured above).

"Machu Picchu @nate_berkus @susankfeldman @allmoxie #lifechanging #specialday," he said.

Brent, who is also a designer, first stepped out publicly with Berkus in December 2012.

Berkus appeared regularly on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" until the series ended its run in 2010. He then began to host his own daytime talk series, "The Nate Berkus Show," which lasted two seasons.

Berkus famously lost his longtime partner Fernando Bengoechea, 39, in December 2004 when the Indian Ocean tsunami hit Sri Lanka, where the two had been vacationing at a beach resort. Berkus talked about the tragedy on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" (watch VIDEO), as well as in his 2012 book, "The Things That Matter."

Berkus wrote in the book that he and Bengoechea, a photographer from Argentina, had shared a love of traveling, saying: "He had traveled all over the world and he was eager for me to see the places he loved most."

"You can't really call yourself a sophisticated person if you've only been to Mexico and Franco," Berkus quoted Bengoechea as saying. "You have to see the rest of the world."
