Tyler Perry and Oprah Winfrey create 'When Sofia met Madea' video to promote OWN partnership
If there was any doubt Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry were painting a big bullseye on the African American female demographic with their partnership on Winfrey's OWN cable channel, that was erased by the new promotional video featuring two of their most enduring characters.
In a cheeky scene, Winfrey plays Miss Sophia, her legendary character from The Color Purple film, and Perry recreates his classic Madea characters from his gospel plays and films. Both characters are incredibly popular with black audiences, especially African American women; bringing them together is something like the Super Bowl of middle-aged black pop culture.

The video will promote a two-night event created for the debut of Perry's two scripted programs created for OWN. The Haves and Have Nots bows at 9 p.m. May 28, featuring the Dukes of Hazzard's John Schneider as the patriarch of a rich white family intertwined with the lives of their black servants and their families. Love Thy Neighbor begins at 9 p.m. May 29, featuring a comical family centered on a diner they own.
Check out the video below; something tells me it's only the beginning of what Perry and Winfrey have in store.
