Douglas has said in various media appearances that she has long wanted to meet Winfrey, who is an idol of sorts for her mother Natalie Hawkins.

Winfrey congratulated Douglas on Twitter last week when the athlete became the first African-American female gymnast to win gold in an all-around final.

"OMG I'm so THRILLED for Gabby. Flowing happy tears!! #TeamUSA," Winfrey tweeted.

Beyonc, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, Elizabeth Banks and Octavia Spence have also congratulated Douglas on her Olympic triumph.

Oprah's Next Chapter returns on Sunday, August 19 at 9/8c on OWN for a special interview with Rihanna.
