Oprah goes shopping in Framingham

TV talk show queen Oprah Winfrey spent over an hour shopping at Bed Bath & Beyond this afternoon, but there were no incidents of screaming, fainting or cars being given away.

"I'm sure someone took a picture with their cellphone,'' said Ken Maynard, assistant manager of the Rte. 9 store, but "everyone did keep their distance.

"She was just doing some shopping. Just like you and I, they want to shop'' without fanfare, and customers respected the privacy of Oprah's entourage, he said.

Winfreywas with a group that included several young women and a personal security guard. The girls' identities remain a mystery, and Maynard declined to discuss what was purchased or how much the media mogul spent.

Why she was shopping in Framingham remains the biggest mystery of all.

"I didn't talk to her,'' said Maynard. "I just said, 'Hi.' ''

After checking out shortly after 4 p.m.,Winfrey and her shopping companions"hopped in their big black SUV and left.''

While Maynard is more of a sports enthusiast than a daytime TV fan, "it was exciting'' to have Winfrey in the store, he said.

According to Oprah's twitter, the group finished their shopping at Target.
