Rihanna tells Oprah Winfrey she was 'more concerned' about Chris Brown

In a bid to pull in an audience to OWN, Oprah Winfrey got Rihanna to pour out her heart about her 2009 beating at the hands of Chris Brown.Rihanna's tearful confession is so heartbreaking, it's probably gonna work, too.

"I lost my best friend; everything I knew switched, switched in a night and I couldn't control that," she tells Oprah in a video posted on ABC News from Oprah's Next Chapter, set to air Sunday. "So I had to deal with that, and that's not easy for me to understand or interpret. It's not easy to interpret on camera. Not with the world watching." (Watch the video above.)

She goes on to explain why she still cared about Brown, even after he smashed her head into a car window and bit her fingers as she tried to defend herself.

"It was a weird, confusing space to be in," she said. "Because as angry as I was, as angry and hurt and betrayed, I just felt like he made that mistake because he needed help and who's going to help him? Nobody's going to say he needs help. Everybody's going to say he's a monster without looking at the source, and I was more concerned about him."

That's enough for us; we're setting our DVRs for stunned.
