Oprah Winfrey to air interview with South Carolina mother who killed her two children on OWN
Oprah Winfrey got the exclusive chance to interview Shaquan Duley, a 30-year-old South Carolina mother who admitted to murdering her two young sons. The interview will air on April 1 as part of the Oprahs Next Chapter series on OWN.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Winfrey talked to Duley at the Orangeburg-Calhoun Detention Center in Orangeburg, SC. Duley has been held in the jail for close to two years without bond and will soon finally learn her sentence this week.
The episode will also include interviews with mother Helen and sister Adrian, who both appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show in Sept. 2010, just a month after Duley was arrested. Winfrey will also talk for Duleys 7-year-old daughter, Saniya.
Entertainment Weekly reports that Duley admitted to murdering her 2-year-old son Devean and 18-month-old son JaVan on Aug. 16, 2010. On that day, she left the house she shared with Helen and Adrian with the children and smothered them at a hotel. She then buckled their bodies in her car, which she crashed into water. She was able to save herself and claimed that they were in an accident.
Duley plead guilty to the charges and could be sentenced to up to 30 years on Friday, reports The Associated Press. Prosecutors claim that she killed the children because her mother believed she was a bad parent.
The episode will air as part of the best-rated show on OWN, Oprahs Next Chapter, which airs at 9 p.m. on Sundays. The series is practically the only success for the struggling network. Winfreys interview with the late Whitney Houstons daughter, Bobbi Kristina, drew the largest audience ev! er for O WN with 3.5 million viewers.
