Dont send wrong signals on rape against minors

Image
Posted on September 1, 2012, Saturday OPRAH Winfrey was sexually assaulted as a young girl. She became pregnant at 14. Even with her superstar status years later, Oprah held back her shame and came out in the open to tell her story. Americas richest and most well-known talk show host regularly brought up the ugly, violent incident in her life during her show. She had good reasons for doing that. Rape, in Oprahs own words and nightmarish experience, is a heinous crime which leaves permanent scars, both physical and emotional, on the victims. Therefore it is important for victims to be prepared to testify against their molesters in order to see that justice is served. There is no doubt that Oprah has been a great influence, and an effective one at that, in bringing perpetrators of sexual crimes to book and seeking redresses for victims. To Oprah, it does not matter whether it was a man raping a girl or a woman raping a boy. In one of her shows in 2010, a man who said he was raped by his

Tattle: Oprah Winfrey remains atop Forbes celebrity earnings list

IT SEEMS LIKE Forbes publishes one of its highest-paid-celebrity lists every few weeks, but maybe that's just because Oprah Winfrey is always on top. So what if OWN is searching for viewers the way presidential candidates are searching for undecided voters, Oprah still topped this year's Forbes celebrity-earners list, netting $165 million in the fiscal year ending in May. Yes, it's $125 million down from the year before, but here at Tattle, once we pass $150 million, we stop counting. Only $5 million behind Oprah is "Transformers" director Michael Bay ($160 million), and then it's a fairly steep drop to director/producer Steven Spielberg ($130 million). Next up is ubiquitous movie and TV producer Jerry Bruckheimer ($115 million) and music producer Dr. Dre ($110 million, mostly from the sale of part of his stake in the Beats by Dr. Dre headphone company). The rest of the Top 20 includes Tyler Perry ($105 million), Howard Stern ($95 million), prolific a

Oprah Winfrey Tops Forbes' 2012 List of Highest-Paid Celebrities

Image
Looks like someone's been living her best life. Even though Oprah Winfrey earned $125 million less between May 2011 and May 2012 than she did the previous year, she still managed to hold on to her spot as the richest star around. Once again, the TV host and OWN/Harpo Productions CEO, 58, tops Forbes magazine's list of the highest-paid celebrities . PHOTOS: Oprah through the years With her past year earnings totaling a staggering $165 million, Winfrey beat out director Michael Bay , who raked in $160 million in 2011 (mostly thanks to his amazing Transformers deal, which guarantees him a solid share of movie and merchandise profits). Forbes points out that Winfrey's 2011 payday was particularly impressive given the uncertain state of her fledgling OWN network (she draws no salary there), as well as the fact that her daytime TV show, formerly the linchpin of her media empire, came to an end. Oprah Winfrey tops Forbes' highest paid celebs list once again

Image
Oprah Winfrey may not have her daily syndicated talk show dumping truckloads of cash at her feet anymore, but with OWN and other ventures, she's still bringing home enough to top Forbes magazine's list of the highest paid celebrities for the fourth straight year. Though the magazine estimates that Winfrey's income dropped by $125 milllion last year, her total haul from May 2011 to May 2012 is estimated to be $165 million. She may not have the daily show, but she still produces " Dr. Phil ," "The Dr. Oz Show" and " The Rachael Ray Show ," among others. Following close on Winfrey's heels however, is Michael Bay . Thanks to "Transformers: Dark of the Moon's" $1.1 billion in box office worldwide (and Bay's great deal for that film) as well as a cut of all Transformers toy sales, Bay took in an estimated $160 million last year. Oprah Winfrey's Annual Earnings Drop by $125 Million, Says Forbes

Image
Frazer Harrison/Getty Images Oprah Winfrey's annual earnings fell by a whopping $125 million last year, according to Forbes . The media mogul earned an estimated $165 million between May 2011 and May 2012, down from $290 million a year earlier. PHOTOS: Hollywood's Top Earners She still ranked atop Forbes ' list of highest-paid celebrities -- which was released Monday -- for a fourth consecutive year. Although her syndicated talk show ended last year, Winfrey's Harpo Productions is behind Dr. Phil, Rachael Ray and The Dr. Oz Show ; she also oversees the O magazine, a satellite radio station and her struggling cable network OWN. But next year, Forbes said, it won't be including any of Winfrey's syndication money, meaning she could lose her No. 1 spot. Additionally, she beat director Michael Bay by only $5 million. The filmmaker, estimated to have earned $160 million, came in at No. 2 thanks to the success Transformers: Dark of the Moon and related toys, of w

Gabby Douglas tells Oprah Winfrey: I was 'bullied,' called 'slave'

Two-time gold medal gymnast Gabby Douglas said in interview with Oprah Winfrey that she faced racism and bullying in the years leading up to her win at the 2012 Summer Olympics. The 16-year-old revealed the details about how she was treated by her old teammates in Virginia Beach, Virginia in an interview with Oprah Winfrey set to air Sunday on "Oprah's Next Chapter" on the OWN network . More from GlobalPost: US gymnast Gabby Douglas wins all-around gold medal "The real truth is, you were going through some things at the other gym, right?" Winfrey asked, according to UPI . Theres also her magazine, O, her satellite radio station and TV channel OWN to keep the bank balance ticking over. Forbes magazine has estimate that Winfrey earned $165 million between May 2011 and May 2012 which puts her at the top of the Highest-Paid Celebrities list for the fourth year in a row. LOL! Olympian Gabby Douglas Teaches Oprah Winfrey Balance Beam Routine

She's gone camping at Yosemite and climbed Sydney's Harbor Bridge in Australia, but no out-of-the box task proved to be more daunting for Oprah Winfrey than completing a balance beam routine in the presence of an Olympian. Lady Gaga and Oprah Winfrey Among World's Most Powerful WomenSee Where They Rank

by Peter Gicas Wed., Aug. 22, 2012 9:10 AM PDT Courtesy: Harpo Productions, INC. Apparently, Mother Monster is no match when it comes to a certain media mogul. Oprah Winfrey just landed on Forbes ' 9th annual World's 100 Most Powerful Women , ranking higher than Lady Gaga as well as several other famous females we are continually obsessed with on a daily basis here. But don't feel too bad for the "Marry the Night" singer. After all, while Miss O came in at No. 11, Gaga wasn't far behind at No. 14. Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber are under 30 and probably richer than you What's more, the songstress can take heart in knowing that no entertainment-related celebs actually cracked the top 10, which was dominated by the likes of Hillary Clinton (No. 2), Michelle Obama (No. 7) and German Chancellor Angela Merkel , who nabbed the top spot for the second year in a row. In other words, both Gaga and Winfrey beat out such gals as Beyonc (No. 32), Jennifer Lopez
