Oprah off to Calgary, Vancouver

VANCOUVER Oprah Winfrey is coming to Canada to offer inspirational insights for the new year. The media mogul will host an event titled An Evening with Oprah Winfrey in Calgary and Vancouver in January. Organizers say Winfrey will share stories and lessons garnered throughout her life and illustrate ways people can take control of their lives to reach their full potential. The event follows a wildly successful visit to Toronto last spring, when Winfrey rallied hardcore Canadian fans with a live version of her televised show, Oprahs Lifeclass: The Tour. Oprah Winfrey coming to Vancouver in January

She is, arguably, one of the most influential pop culture prophets of our times, a beloved oracle who has guided a generation of women (and not a few men) through the social, spiritual and psychological morass of modern life. So when the 58-year-old Oprah Winfrey walked away from her network television talk show last year, after a quarter of a century as the doyenne of daytime, to head over to cable and start her own network, there was worry that her legendary influence would be greatly muted. And while her Oprah Winfrey Network has struggled to find an audience, and while she has been off the onscreen radar for what seems like forever, Winfrey is hardly the type to fade into the wings. Which is why you can expect tickets for her first official appearance in Vancouver on Jan. 24, which go on sale this Saturday, are likely to disappear faster than you can say Tom Cruise is tough on couch springs. Billed as an inspirational evening, the 7 p.m. event at Rogers Arena is the second stop of

Oprah: I was raped when I was only 9

Oprah: I was raped when I was only 9 By Jenny Johnson Wednesday, November 28, 2012 Behind Oprah Winfreys 2bn net worth are stories of pain, struggle, and eventually triumph. The media mogul recounted her own experiences with abuse, which included being raped at the age of nine, during an appearance at Ball State University, Indiana, part of a lecture series fellow chat show host David Letterman sponsors at his alma mater. "Anybody who has been verbally abused or physically abused will spend a great deal of their life rebuilding their esteem," Winfrey said in front of 3,000 students. She recounted being physically beaten as a child, saying it was a cultural experience many African- American children went through. She also said was raped and molested. "Youre an extraordinary person who lived through hell," said Letterman. "You were not consumed, you prevailed." Winfrey talked about some of the positive aspects of her life: How she learned to read before sh

Oprah Winfrey talks about her childhood in serious chat with David Letterman VIDEO

Feud? What feud? On Monday night, Oprah Winfrey joined David Letterman for a fairly serious conversation at the late night hosts alma mater, Ball State University and from the resulting clips, its pretty impossible to tell that there was ever any bad blood between these two. As Letterman explained in 2010, he and Oprah first butted heads long before his infamous Oprah, Uma. Uma, Oprah joke at the 1995 Academy Awards. Apparently, Letterman pulled a prank on Winfrey when he spotted her at a restaurant, pinning his bill on the media mogul and sparking a mutual antipathy that lasted until 2005 . Now, though, the two appear to be the best of friends. While interviewing Winfrey for his Ball State lecture series, Letterman had nothing but praise for his Hollywood peer: I feel personally touched and lucky to spend this kind of time with this woman, he said at one point, calling her experiences stunning. Winfrey returned the favor, freely opening up about her hardscrabble pre-talk-show lif

Oprah's Brand Is Showing Its Age Just Like Most Of Her Fans

AP Images Marie Antoinettes advice to the poor was let them eat cake. Oprah Winfreys response to world recession has been to release her own line of organic food. According to Forbes, Americas Ancien Queen has filed for trade marking Oprahs Organics, Oprahs Harvest and Oprahs farm. Oprahs products include salad dressing, frozen vegetables, massage oils, skin care products and hair sprays a little bit of luxury for her millions of devoted followers. Although, for now, theyll only be available to acolytes living in Hawaii. The rest of the country will have to eat and wash their hair with things that dont have a famous persons name randomly stamped on them. An article in Sundays New York Times suggests that Oprahs obsessive branding of anything and everything (in a dystopic future, warzones will be dotted with Oprahs Landmines) is actually a sign of panic. Although Ms Winfrey remains insanely wealthy, the power of her brand has diminished since she quit her talk sho
