Celebrity Travel: Canadians would love to take a trip with Shania Twain or Oprah Winfrey

Were not sure what this means, but we have an idea. According to a study by Travelocity.ca., Canadian women would rather travel with Oprah Winfrey than any other Canadian-American celebrity. Men would rather have Shania Twain along for the ride.

The company did a survey of 1,234 Canadians in March and asked them to choose a pretend celebrity travel mate from a list of 14 folks, half American and half Canadian. The list was made up of Sidney Crosby, Stephen Colbert, Ryan Gosling, Winfrey, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, George Stroumboulopoulos, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Swift, Sophia Vergara, Jay-Z, Celine Dion, Twain and Gordie Howe. Respondents also were allowed to answer with other in case none of the above folks turned their proverbial crank.

By and large, respondents preferred their celebrities from north of the border, Travelocity officials said.

Topping the charts for both men and women as a whole was Twain at 17 per cent, followed by Winfrey at nine, Dion at eight, Gosling at seven and Stroumboulopoulos and Swift at five. Vergara and McAdams each got four percent, as did Colbert, Lady Gaga and Crosby. Howe was at 3 per cent, while Bieber and Jay-Z managed just a single point. Other was listed at 25 per cent.

Twain received a full 24 per cent of the male vote but only nine per cent of votes from females. Next for the men was Swift at nine per cent, then Vergara at seven. Colbert was at six per cent, just ahead (!) of Crosby. Sid the Kid barely defeated Winfrey (four per cent) in the male field. A little offputting for Crosby, maybe, but then again Winfrey is pretty tough in the corners.

For women, Winfrey was the winner at 15 per cent, followed by Gosling (12), Dion (11) and Twain (9). The voluptuous Vergara got only one vote from women and registered a zero percent.

Respondents also were asked where theyd take their dream date. Twenty two per cent answered Mexico or the Caribbean, compared to 20 per cent for Europe and 18 per cent for Australia. Next was a tie b! etween t he South Pacific and USA/Canada at 11 per cent, then Africa (7), South America (6) and Asia/Southeast Asia (4). One per cent said other, which pretty much means Antarctica or the North Pole or a space ride with Richard Branson.

Asked what type of experience theyd want to have with their celebrity partner, 32 per cent of men answered romance. Women? They said theyd prefer to relax (27 per cent). Only seven per cent of women chose a romance trip with their dream date. Then again, they were talking about going with Oprah
