Oprah Winfrey Explores India In Two-part Series

NEW DELHI, July 12 (Bernama) - US talk show queen Oprah Winfrey's experiences during her maiden visit to India in which she connected with people from slum-dwellers to the glamorous will be shown as a two-part series on Discovery.

The 58-year-old TV mogul's experiences were captured as part of her show called "Oprah's next Chapter" when she visited the country at the end of January, Press Trust of India reported.

In Mumbai Winfrey visited the slums and met a family of five living in a 10-foot-by-10-foot concrete room.

She was impressed by an upper-middle-class family which had four generations living happily under one roof.

She had her brush with Bollywood when attending a party with Mumbai's glitterati including Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, as well as meeting with Aishwarya Rai and the Bachchan family.

In the series' second episode, Winfrey travelled to Taj Mahal in Agra and later Jaipur where she was invited to the Palace walls by the royal family.

In Vrindavan she visited a shelter run by V Mohini Giri's Guild for Service which provides shelter and job training to more than 100 displaced women.

"After 25 years I got myself out of the studio chairs. I moved into the next chapter, and I am having more fun than ever - moving around the country and the world talking to people I'm really interested in getting to know and I think viewers will be, too," said Winfrey.

"It is so energising to be out and about in the world exploring new people, new places and new ideas," she said.

The two part series will be aired on July 20 and 21.
